Child of the Sun

Many of the buildings on the Florida Southern College campus in Lakeland, Florida were designed by renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The collection of buildings that make up the college campus are called the Child of the Sun and are a designated National Historic Landmark. It is known as being the largest single-site collection of the architect’s work. It is a great place for anyone who appreciates unique or historically significant architecture. The visitor center is open daily and tours are offered.

What may be most interesting is the fact that Wright designed many buildings that were never completed. However, just recently, one of these designs was actually built. Called the “Usonian House” referencing a term used by Wright to describe his vision of the future of the American landscape including design and architecture, it was intended to be a house for faculty members of the college.
